Marquand would win the Pulitzer Prize for his next novel (The Late George Apley). First Edition, First Printing as designated by "Published March, 1935" printed on copyright page with no additional statement of printing or edition. A very good hardcover copy with yellow cloth-covered boards and spine with blue stamping. Wear on bottom board/page edges, covers are dust soiled, creasing to top and bottom of spine, board corners rounded. Spine leans slightly. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown, pencil markings on rear pastedown. Not ex-library, no remainder marks. Good original first printing unclipped dust jacket ($2.00 price intact). Chipping to top and bottom of spine, several small tears/chips to top and bottom of covers and at fold corners, partial separation between rear cover and spine at hinge. Colors have faded on spine, covers dark and some damage on front cover. Encased in protective dust jacket cover. Included is facsimile dust jacket. Shipped in well-padded box. Very good / Good.
