A 4-book lot consisting of first or limited edition copies of books mentioned for the Pulitzer Prize by the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel jury or written by Pulitzer Prize for the Novel/Fiction-winning authors.
1. Balisand by Joseph Hergesheimer, first trade edition first printing: Publisher Alfred A. Knopf. Publication Year 1924. One of three novels recommended for Pultizer Prize by 1925 jury. There were two signed, limited editions issued by the publisher, this is the first trade edition, as indicated by lack of subsequent printing stated on copyright page. Condition Very Good, bumping at top and bottom of spine and spine faded, spine leans to right, wear/dirt/aging on page edges, board corners rounded. Good dust jacket, not clipped. Fading and darkening on spine, chunk missing from top of spine, general wear and aging, misc. tears/chips. Included along with original dust jacket is facsimile dust jacket.
2. Michael Scarlett by James Gould Cozzens first edition, first printing: Publisher Albert & Charles Boni. Publication Year 1925. Pulitzer Prize for Fiction-winning author's second novel. Condition Very Good, bumping at top and bottom of spine and spine leans to right, wear/dirt/aging on page edges, topstain dirty but solid, board corners rounded. Previous owner's stamps on front pastedown and front free endpaper. Good dust jacket, not clipped. Fading and darkening on spine, chunk missing from top of spine, general wear and aging, misc. tears/chips. Included along with original dust jacket is facsimile dust jacket.
3. O Shepherd, Speak! by Upton Sinclair, first edition, first printing: Publisher Viking Press. Publication Year 1949. Tenth book in this Pulitzer Prize for Fiction-winning author's Lanny Budd series. Condition Very Good, bumping at top and bottom of spine, wear/dirt/aging on page edges, top stain solid, board corners slightly rounded. Previous owner's name and inscription on front free endpaper in blue ink. Good dust jacket, not clipped. Chips/chunks and tears along bottom and top edges, particularly on the spine. General wear and aging. Included along with original dust jacket is facsimile dust jacket.4. A Rope for Dr. Webster by James Gould Cozzens, signed limited edition. Publisher Bruccoli Clark. Publication Year 1976. Short story written by Pulitzer Prize winning author and published as signed limited edition. Condition, Very Good. Has maroon-colored felt covered clamshell box with letter press sheets secured to bottom of box. This is number 12 of 350 copies. Signed by author in blue ink on limitations slip of paper affixed to bottom side of top cover of clamshell. Box is dirty, tape on rear side of box. No dust jacket, as issued.
