First U.S. Hardcover Edition, First Printing, as designated “First Hardcover Edition” printed on copyright page. The U.S. first edition of Mohawk was published as a softcover original edition by Vintage Originals in 1986. The actual first hardcover edition was published in the UK by Heinemann in 1987. The first U.S. hardcover edition was published by Knopf in 2001 after Russo won the Pulitzer Prize. This is the latter (first U.S. hardcover) edition. A fine, signed hardcover copy, red covered boards, dark blue cloth covered spine with silver lettering. Book is square and solid, spine is tight. Bottom corner of back cover just slightly short of sharp, wear on bottom board edges from typical shelving. Not ex-library, no previous owner markings, book plates, or remainder marks. Author signature only on full title page in black ink. Included is bookmark from Tucson Festival of the Book, where Russo received the festivals “Founders Award,” recognizing lifetime achievements and at which this book was signed. Fine unclipped dust jacket ($25.95 price intact) encased in Brodart Quik-Fold, acid-free polyester jacket cover. Very slight wrinkling to top and bottom of spine. Shipped in well-padded box.
