First Edition, First Printing, as designated by First Edition and full number line (beginning with 1) printed on copyright page. This is a presentation or gift edition. The copyright page states First Edition, but the number line ends at 2, suggesting a second printing. The first trade edition had the First Edition statement and a number line that ended in 1, as would be expected for a first printing. However, the uncorrected proof of this book, published in red cardstock and distributed in advance of publication, stated First Edition with the number line ending in 2. Further, a letter from the publisher that was included with another copy of the same book stated that this boxed preprint marks the beginning of a marketing campaign… Thus, despite the number line ending in 2, this is a preprint or presentation copy sent out by HarperCollins before the trade edition was published. A fine, hardcover copy, black cloth boards with sharp corners and gold and red stamping, black cloth spine with gilt lettering. Book is square and solid, spine is tight. There is rubbing on the gold stamping on the front cover. Not ex-library, no previous owner markings, book plates, or remainder marks. Looks unread. No dust jacket, as issued. Included is slipcase covered in cream colored paper with the author initials repeated as a pattern and a gold band running horizontally and vertically, giving the appearance of a wrapped gift. The slipcase is die cut so that the stamping on the front cover can be seen. Shipped in well-padded box. Fine. Item #1458
